Photo Shoot - Sunday 28th June - Carrick-on-Shannon

Photo Shoot
Club members are reminded that this month's Photo Shoot will take place on Sunday, 28th June. We shall meet at the Crescent, Boyle at 9.30am and organise carpooling for a morning of photography in Carrick-on-Shannon. There will be plenty of photo opportunities as the Lakelands & Inland Waterways are having a Discover Carrick-on-Shannon Day with fun and entertainment about the town for all to enjoy.

Club Meeting - July
Next month's Camera Club meeting, scheduled for 8th July, will deviate slightly from the regular meeting structure. The committee propose to conduct an Evening Photo Shoot about Boyle. Members are asked to bring their cameras and tripods and assemble at the earlier time of 7.30pm on the Crescent, Boyle. Those attending will split into a number of Groups and fulfil a brief that sets out to capture the splendid town of Boyle.
In the event of bad weather, the meeting will be carried out as usual in The Moving Stairs, Boyle.

Check-in soon for up-dates.

Club Meeting - Wednesday 10th June

Conor's IPF Distinctions Presentation
Conor Dowling presents his IPF Distinctions submission at this month's club meeting.

This month's main presentation was delivered by Competitions Secretary, Conor Dowling. Conor, who was recently awarded his Licentiate from the Irish Photographic Federation, discussed the process of preparing for the IPF Distinctions. He presented his 'panel' of 10 printed photos based on a 'Wildlife' theme and brought the club through the submission criteria. Conor is hopeful that his success will encourage other club members to consider preparing for the Distinctions awards and he is happy to advise interested members in a formal workshop in advance of the next awards selection due to take place in October.

Members considering applying for an IPF Distinction would do well to read the handbook published by the Royal Photographic Society which is available to download HERE.

The first round of submissions for the club's Annual Exhibition were also prepared and presented by Conor. The theme for this year's exhibition is 'Love Where You Live' and members are asked to send in their best photos for consideration. It was agreed that the standard of members work continues to improve and that another fine exhibition will be mounted as part of the Boyle Arts Festival in July.
A Sub-Committee to coordinate and organise the exhibition was elected.

Members are asked to submit an additional TWO photos on the 'Love Where You Live' theme for this month on or before 1st July.

Achill Island Photo Shoot - A Great Success

BCC Achill 01 - Tony Murphy
Boyle Camera Club Members square-up to the vista views on Achill during the recent weekend photo shoot.

Photographers from Boyle Camera Club took up residence on Achill Island, Co. Mayo for what will hopefully become an annual Summer Weekend Photo Shoot. The event was attended by 28 club members, most arriving on the Island on Friday night to prepare for the 4am sunrise shoot on Saturday morning. Achill enjoyed a weekend of glorious sunny weather while most of the country experienced heavy cloud cover, icy winds and rain.

Dawn Patrol Achill - Tony Murphy
Dawn Patrol - Doogort Beach, Achill Island.

18 photographers took to the beach at Doogort at dawn in time to catch the sun breaking over the horizon at 5.12am. A perfect start to the day which saw members travel to various stunning and dramatic photographic locations on the island. Day 1. ended with a fine feast for the tired and hungry photographers, hosted by Chris, Veronica and Ger at Doogort and the contingent finished with a night-cap in Lynott's bar. The sun continued to shine on Sunday which saw the club tour the Atlantic Drive before heading home.
It was unanimously agreed the the event was a great success, thanks in no small part to the great efforts and organisation skills of club treasurer, Chris O'Connor. Plans are already underway for the next weekend trip!

Members photos from Achill can be viewed HERE.

Next Meeting of Boyle Camera Club will take place this Wednesday, 10th June 2009 in The Moving Stairs, Boyle at 8pm.
