Season's Greetings Everyone!

Wishing you all a very Happy and Peaceful Christmas and Good Luck and Good Health in the New Year!

Don't forget that our monthly motivation for members is for 'Christmas' . That can be anything you like, so long as it has a Christmas theme! The deadline for submissions is January 1st 2010. As always, you can submit up to two pictures which will then be included in a slideshow at our next meeting, Tuesday January 12th in the Royal Hotel, Boyle. Please make sure you format your pictures properly and include your name and the name of the photograph in the file name.
Our quarterly competition is 'Wintertime' and the deadline for that is January 31st 2010. For the competition you can again submit two images, but this time you must also include the category you are in (beginner, intermediate or advanced) in the file name, alongside your name and the title of the picture. Good Luck!

Christmas Greetings to All our members

Peter Boalch - Lets Rock

Seasonal Cheer All Round!
There was a good turn out for the Club's Christmas party, although there were a few familiar faces missing due to illness (if that's you, please get well soon!) and people with other commitments at this busy time of year. A good time was had by all, with music, food and good company – and a few photographs of our recent photo-shoots, of course.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, January 12th, when Peter will repeat his short slideshow about the planned trip to the Aran Islands in June, for the benefit of those who missed it. He'll also be taking deposits for the accommodation then.
Meanwhile, there are a few items for your consideration:

The Drogheda Photographic Club is hosting the Tony Dunne Memorial Salon and encourages all photographers to enter. The closing date for entries is January 31st 2010. Rules are here and can also be downloaded from Droghada Photographic Club.

A trip to Athlone IT is planned for February 13th, when there will be workshops organised by the IPF. More details to follow.
We have an international invitation to participate in the 30th annual George W. Glennie Nature Interclub Exhibition, which will be held by the Merrimack Valley Camera Club, North Andover, MA on Saturday, March 27, 2010. More details here.

Club member Martina Morris is helping to fund her forthcoming Touch Ireland charity trip to Africa through sales of her photographs in Boyle's new eco-shop, The Greenway Emporium. She has already made some well-deserved sales and hopes for more. Other members can also sell their photographs through The Greenway Emporium – just call in for details.

Season's greetings to everyone – may you enjoy the festive season, and have a happy and peaceful Christmas, and good health and happiness in the coming year!

Peter Gordon - Explore Light - Workshops and Exhibition

Explore Light - New Workshops

An entire range of new courses can now be viewed on our remodeled workshops page. We are now offering in addition to our Wicklow Weekend courses, West of Ireland workshops, night courses, seminars and international photo tours to the United States. This large scale expansion reflects the success of our courses over the past few years and our desire to teach in new environments and locations.

While our courses are geared towards landscape photography the skills we teach can be applied to many other genres. Our goal is to show you specific landscape techniques allowing you to take real control of your camera and previsualise outcomes that capture high quality imagery in any situation. We have a course to suit every budget from one day seminars to photo tours to the USA.

Christmas gift vouchers are now available which can be redeemed against workshops or any of our fine art prints.

Exhibition

Explore Light will be holding a new exhibition entitled 'The Land' which opens in Dublin next week. The new exhibition features a selection of previously unprinted work and opens December 9th in the Smock Alley Theatre, West Essex Street, Temple Bar and runs until December 23rd.

The range of work which will be exhibited can now be viewed in 'The Land' gallery on our website. The show will feature a series of large canvases as well as mid range sized prints down to 10x8 inch sizes. The gallery is spacious and centrally located in the city centre so we are very excited to get our work up on the walls. We will be opening the show on Wednesday the 9th so we would love if you could join us for a glass of wine and a chat between 6 and 9pm.

Christmas Party on Tuesday!

Time to dust off the glad rags – our next meeting is a Christmas Party. Meet as usual (second Tuesday of the month – December 8th) in the Royal Hotel at 8pm – but this will be a break from our usual format as we enjoy a social meeting. There will be musical entertainment, light buffet food, a raffle for all kinds of goodies – and the chance to let your hair down, camera optional!
We'll start with some notices (stuff you need to know about), then the slide shows of the last two photo-shoots will run.
After that, its a chance to get to know your fellow photographers a bit better.

  1. All members welcome – if you joined since October 2008, you are still a member until the end of 2009!
  2. If you've ordered the Tom Ang 'Digital Photography Masterclass' book, come with your €12 so you can take it home.
  3. If you haven't collected your pictures from the BAF exhibition in the Library in July, they will be there for you on Tuesday evening (or call into the Greenway Emporium for them).
  4. Peter will be taking names and deposits for the weekend trip to the Aran Islands in June.
