Boyle Camera Club - Exhibition at The Dock - Sept 2011

The Dock in Carrick-on-Shannon have contacted us regarding our upcoming exhibition there in September and we now have to move things forward.
We wish members to submit New or Alternative work (alternative to our present exhibition at Boyle Library).

Members need to notify us of their intention to participate by posting a 'reply' in the related item in the CLUB FORUM. Only members responding to the forum post will be considered for the exhibition.

A meeting is scheduled for THURSDAY next at 7pm 4th August in Daly's Bar, Boyle to discuss Framing /Cost etc. All interested parties must attend otherwise we will understand you are not interested. There will be no second chance to participate as this event is prestigous and an important event for our club and will take a lot of organising.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Photo Shoot
A group of members are meeting for an informal photo shoot next Wednesday evening. Convene at the Gaelic Chieftain at 6.30pm. I believe the group will subsequently head in the Ballinafad and Lough Arrow direction.

Thursday 21st July at 7.30pm

Open to the public at Boyle Library from 22nd - 30th July.
All proceeds from this year's exhibition will be donated to TOUCH Ireland.

Club Meeting - 12th July 2011

At this month's meeting, Tony Murphy addressed the issue of RAW v JPEG. The presentation focused on the characteristics of various image file formats, including TIFF and the advantages and disadvantages of each. Tony also went through the motions of editing a RAW file and compared it to a JPEG equivalent that was processed in-camera.

Motivation
This month's Motivation theme was 'FOOD'. Paraic Brennan passed judgement on members submissions and presented his critique during the meeting. The colour and variety of images this month was exceptional, with particular flair being demonstrated by many new members. Paraic's results are listed below;

There has been no Motivation Theme set for next month as our next club meeting will not take place until September.

Other Items

Siobhan Carlos Exhibit
BCC member, Siobhan Cox-Carlos is currently showing an exhibition of her paintings at the Sol Art Gallery in Dublin. The club wish her the very best with the show.

The official opening of Boyle Camera Club's Annual Exhibition will take place on Thursday evening, 21st July at 7.30 in Boyle Library, King House. We look forward to seeing all our members there. The exhibition is open to the public from Friday 22nd - Saturday 30th July.

A proposal to have our AGM this year on October 11th was approved by members at the July meeting.

Finally, There will be no Club Meeting for August, club meetings will reconvene in September. During the holiday period, individual members can arrange Group Meetings or Photo Shoots via the Club Forum. Please note that the club secretary must be informed of Group Meetings or Photo Shoots during the holiday period.

Club Meeting - Tuesday 12th July

There will be NO meeting of the IPF Distinctions Group this month.

The Agenda for our July club meeting is as follows;
  • 8pm - Chairperson's Address
  • Presentation - Tony Murphy will discuss the issue of image file formats, notably the difference between shooting in JPEG and RAW.
  • July Motivation - FOOD, presented by Joe Kennedy. Paraic Brennan will judge this month's entries and present his critique to members. View members submissions HERE.
  • Tea/Coffee
  • Summer Exhibition - Some logistical issues need to be finalised in advance of the opening of our Annual Exhibition in association with Boyle Arts Festival. Participating members will be asked to sign mounts for framing. Also, a sitting schedule will be prepared to tend the exhibition during library opening hours. The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 22nd - Saturday 30th July. Details of the official opening will be disclosed shortly.

Recent Group Photo Shoots

BCC Advanced Group Photo Shoot - June 2011
Last week was another busy week for Boyle Camera Club. The Beginners Group met on Thursday 23rd of June for a photoshoot in Daly's Bar on Bridge Street concentrating on "Pub and Low Light photography" led by Tony Murphy.
The Advanced Group met on Thursday the 30th of June for a photo session on "Studio Lighting". Jason Mallard kindly led this group. Everyone got a chance to take a shot or two while other members of the group took it in turns to pose for the photographers. Thanks to Peter Kelly for the studio lights, Conor Dowling for the backdrop and Jason for the photo tips.
The Intermediate Group met on Tuesday the 28th for a photoshoot in Lough Key Forest Park on "Camera Controls" the photoshoot was led by Peter Kelly.

The Club Committee are currently busy putting together their selection for the Summer Exhibition in conjunction with the Boyle Arts Festival. From the previews it looks like this years Summer Exhibition will be the best to date!
