Club Meeting - Wednesday 10th December

Phillipa models for the a studio light test at this month's meeting

This month's club meeting was very well attended with a few new and welcome faces in the audience. Members gathered in the Moving Stairs, Boyle for this, the final club engagement of the year. The main body of the meeting consisted of a demonstration by Tony on setting-up and using the club's recently purchased set of studio lights. The demonstration was specifically tailored for compact camera users. Phillipa modelled as Tony showed how to adjust the lighting to get natural skin tones and showed the effects that can be achieved from using one or multiple light sources. There is an excellent instructional DVD that accompanies the kit which is easy to follow and user friendly. Ideal for experimenting with Still-Life or Portraits, the lighting kit is available for loan to all club members. Those interested should contact Sean or Dermot.
There are some excellent video tutorials on using studio lights available by following the links below.

The theme for the December Motivation was 'Silhouettes' and Conor prepared and presented the slide shows. This month, members from each of the 3 categories voted for images in their own category only! The Motivation Team are looking at a number of ways to stream-line the voting process so that it is easy for both members and the committee to process. Submissions to the December Motivation are available for review HERE.
Conor also presented members with a hand-out for the January Motivation - 'Christmas Means ...'. Members are encouraged to explore the creative possibilities that will present themselves to their camera lenses in the coming weeks.
Members should submit images for the January Motivation on or before 9th JANUARY 2009. Have a look at some of the images in the links below for inspiration.

Finally, Tony presented an image 'Make-Over'. He showed how to add some spice to an ordinary snap shot demonstrating how silhouettes can be simulated with a few simple tweeks in Photoshop. Tonys presentation can be viewed HERE.

The meeting ended with some seasonal indulgence. Those present enjoyed some wonderful finger-food prepared by Mirik, resident chef at the Moving Stairs. The Christmas Pudding was a particular favourite!

Kilronan Castle Photoshoot - December 2008

Kilronan Photoshoot December 2008
Boyle Camera Club members at Keadue

A bitterly cold and frosty morning did not deter 18 members of Boyle Camera Club from their monthly photoshoot. On Sunday 7th December, a cavalcade of cars braved the road to Keadue and stopped off to capture the foggy light at Lough Meelagh before going to the beautifully restored Kilronan Castle. The management gave members free access to explore and photograph the castle and grounds. The restoration project, a credit to the developers, reflects great attention to architectural detail which effectively marries the antique and contemporary with an equally impressive collection of furniture and artworks. The club are grateful to the management and staff for the opportunity to explore this very fine and luxurious retreat.

Club Meeting Wednesday 10th December

This months club meeting will take place in The Moving Stairs at 8pm. As usual, a full agenda is planned but will include some time to socialise and sample some very fine finger-food to celebrate the Christmas Season.
The meeting will include a presentation on the use of the clubs recently acquired studio lights. Tony will show members how to set these up and use them to create stunning portraits and still life photos.
This months MOTIVATION images will be reviewed. Conor and Peter will discuss entries and present the Motivation for January. MOTIVATION images for this month 'Silhouettes', can be viewed HERE.
If time allows, Tony may present one of his 'Image Make-overs' to demonstrate how a little thoughtfulness and imagination can transform a simple photograph.
The meeting will conclude after 9.00pm and members can relax and enjoy the food-fare provided by the Moving Stairs and should they wish, talk about their photographic problems and exploits informally.

We look forward to seeing you all there. New members are always welcome.
